Weekend With The Kids

Laura headed off to the beach for Aunt Stephanie's bachlorette weekend, so I had the kids by myself for the whole weekend (although my parents were there Saturday night after the kids went down to sleep).  I rushed home from work on Friday so that I could take the kids out to dinner at a restaurant.  Avery got to pick, so we went to Midwood Smokehouse, a BBQ joint that makes her favorite kind of grilled cheese.

"Where's the pig?"
Avery eating said grilled cheese and Carter chowing down on BBQ.

Saturday morning we got up and headed out to the airplane museum.  Avery was sad that Carter had gotten to go the previous week and that she had forgotten what was there.

We got there before it opened, so we headed over to the lookout so Carter could spot some planes.
Once we were inside, the first stop is always the plane that they can get inside.
Avery was doing a scavenger hunt, while Carter was in charge of pointing at all the airplanes and going "ooooooooooo"

Captain Avery and co-pilot Carter testing out the cockpit and adjusting every button.

After the museum, I even got both of the kids to the pool by myself, although not many pictures were taken.

Aunt Stephanie's Bridal Shower

At the end of July, all the special ladies that love Stephanie got together for a brunch to celebrate the bride and shower her with gifts.  Of course the cutest one there was the flower girl, miss Avery.  She even got her own flower corsage to wear.  We played a game (courtesy of Aunt Lisa)  about how well we know the bride and Avery actually did pretty well (I only got one more right answer than her).  The event was hosted by Grammie and I brought yummy cupcakes for dessert.  It was hot outside, but us southern women can handle it :)  Congrats to Stephanie... only one more month until the wedding!  We can't wait!

A flower for the flower girl!

The cousins at the shower - Rebecca, me, Stephanie, Allyson, Paige, Gina, and Avery

There was a garden at the restaurant and Avery wanted to walk through it before we left.  She loved smelling the flowers and herbs and showing them off like it was her personal garden.

Trip to the Airport

Laura took Avery to Vass this past weekend for a wedding shower, so Carter and I had the entire weekend to do boy stuff.  Carter has been very good at spotting every single airplane that flys over by stopping what he is doing, looking up, pointing to the airplane, and going "woooooooooo!"  If you ask him where the airplane is he will get a serious look on his face and start to scan the skies.  When we took him to the airport lookout a few weeks ago, he would stuff his fingers in his ears while the airplanes took off, but wasn't crazy about the noise

So I decided to take him to the Carolinas Aviation Museum, much like we have done with Avery.

The kids favorite thing is always sitting in the airplane cockpits and playing with the controls and Carter was no different.

Checking out all the airplanes.
He really enjoyed the larger cockpit, even though he couldn't reach anything.  He would have stayed in there all day and kept trying to run back to it.
The fighter cockpit was also a big hit.
As well as looking at all of the planes up close.
The biggest smile of the day, playing with the sign...  Everything else was extreme concentration.
In front of the "Miracle on the Hudson" plane.

Checking out larger planes.

They also had an outside viewing area where you could watch planes take off without being too close to the runway and all of the noise.  Carter preferred that much more than the normal viewing location.
